ice portraits: likenesses in ice
One of our specialties at ice dragon ice is the ice portrait. Ice portraits are simply rendering a recognizable likeness of a person in engraved ice. And while it sounds simple, it can be very difficult. Instead of the dreaded โWhat is it?โ question, you have to fend off the โWho is it?โ one. But we love the challenge, and we love how they turn out!
What do you think, can you see yourself as an ice sculpture?
Check out some of the portraits we’ve done in ice. There are some repeats here so far, but more to come!

We’ve done ice portraits of a lot of people for a variety of places. You might have noticed that the Fear the Walking Dead piece was in Savannah, Georgia while the Hugh Jackman/Old Man Logan piece was in New Mexico! Meanwhile, others have been at venues ranging from swanky places like the Windsor Court Hotel to rural Louisiana film sets. On occasion, we’ve also designed portraits for other ice sculptors (because they’re kind of challenging sometimes), so our portraits have ended up in places where we weren’t too!
While assembling this gallery, the lack of female portraits became obvious. For a while, Marilyn Monroe was the only female portrait and weโve done her portrait twice! We did another โportraitโ of Kate Mara as Sue Storm for a Fantastic Four sculpture, but she plays the Invisible Woman in that movie, so you can imagine that MAYBE that wasnโt the best ice portrait ๐ (and it didnโt make the cut for our movie and tv ice sculptures page either!) But we just added Kim Dickens as Madison Clark in FTWD and Kim Cattrall as Margaret Monreaux. Boxer girl is here now too, but she’s not real :/ Look for us to add more ice portraits of women in the near future! (We’ve done several others; just need to post pics!)
Btw, you donโt have to be famous to be in an ice portrait! Weโll also be adding several non-celebrities soon. (The horse, the bulldog, and pretend boxer girl donโt count!)
